Creative Projects Coordinator – overseeing the development and delivery of our published products and celebration events.


We want our programme to have a transformative impact on every child we work with. As part of that, we turn their written work into fantastical, confidence boosting and memorable published products.

The Creative Projects Coordinator will oversee and deliver termly creative projects which involve the production of books, films, podcasts and more. For example every year our Young Pirates write a book that is distributed to families and schools, and a film that is premiered at our local cinema.

We are working with more young people than ever, our plans include 600 from Sept 2022, and increasing those children are part of our online programme. To support this we are looking for a hardworking, creative and highly-organised project coordinator to:

  • Co-ordinate the smooth delivery of current products, working closely with the education team; and
  • Develop new products that excite our learners and put us at the cutting edge of online learning.

Key Responsibilities

Project co-ordination: ensure the delivery of an annual cycle of published products and their celebration events both online and in person.

  • Developing clear project plans to ensure the admin of products and events is completed by the team;
  • Arranging and overseeing production activities such as proof-reading, filming and editing;
  • Planning celebration events online and in person for the launch of products;
  • Liaising with volunteers, artists, designers and other partners in delivery;
  • Evaluating the success of projects;
  • Taking part in direct project activities such as proof reading or attending celebration events;
  • Working with our Communications Manager to give the children a wider audience for their work and launching projects on social media and in local media;
  • Ensuring children’s needs and voices are at the heart of all our projects and events.

Project development: ensuring our published products and celebration events are fantastical, impactful and at the cutting edge of digital learning.

  • Taking feedback from children and families in order to drive our search for new products;
  • Researching and developing new ideas for publishing and events;
  • Researching new technologies that could improve our events and published products online;
  • Working with the education team to ensure the learning programme needs are met through any new products;
  • Implementing new published products;
  • Building a network of people to support delivery.

Safeguarding: ensuring all children are safe by enforcing our safeguarding and risk management policies at all times.

  • Overseeing rigorous DBS checking procedures and record keeping on all volunteers;
  • Ensuring the code of conduct is upheld by all volunteers, supporting in investigations where necessary.

General

  • As required, other projects and activities that support the goals of the organisation.

Experience

Consider any experiences you have from work, study, volunteering or personal projects and how these might demonstrate you have the right attributes and the ability to learn and perform in the role.

Suggested experiences that some candidates might demonstrate include:

  • Working in a busy environment to achieve challenging goals;
  • Organising others;
  • Managing work to deadlines;
  • Experience of digital learning or events;
  • Specific experiences related to publishing projects such as proof-reading, editing and so on.
  • Working in events;
  • Working with a diverse range of people; developing inclusive services;
  • Knowledge of the communities we work with like Hackney and Haringey.

Like all roles at The Literacy Pirates, the successful candidate will complete a three-month probationary period before the confirmation of the appointment.

Role: Creative Projects Coordinator
Salary: £22,000 – £24,000
Location: London/Remote/Hybrid
Contract: Full time, permanent – working hours are 11am to 7pm
Start date: 1st September 2022, with option for earlier in August

Successful candidates will be asked to interview in the week of the 27th June between 9am and 6pm. The interview process takes a full day. We are able to compensate for unpaid leave where required.
